What is microbiome analysis?

Microbiome analysis is the process of turning a biological sample into structured microbial information. A sample is sequenced to read its genetic material, the resulting data is processed to profile which microbes are present and their relative abundance, and VAMS ATLAS™ then organizes those sequencing-derived features into a clear report. The method sets the biological resolution; the analysis makes the data readable.

From sample to structured report

Every VAMS BIOME test follows the same analysis pathway. The sample type and sequencing method vary by ecosystem and configuration; the structure stays consistent.

1 · Sample

Collect an at-home sample for the chosen ecosystem — stool, vaginal swab, saliva, or skin swab.

2 · Sequencing

16S Foundation™, WGS Advanced™, or MetaT Functional™ reads the sample and sets its biological resolution.

3 · Analysis

Sequencing data is processed into microbial composition, diversity, and associated features.

The sequencing method decides what type of microbial information can be generated. It sets biological resolution — your report package decides how much interpretation you receive. Package controls interpretation depth. Sequencing depth controls biological resolution and can be adjusted in the configurator.

How is a microbiome sample analyzed?

A sample is collected at home, sequenced using 16S Foundation™, WGS Advanced™, or MetaT Functional™, processed into microbial composition and associated features, and then organized by VAMS ATLAS™ into Foundation Packs, Scores, Panels, and confidence indicators.

Does the sequencing method change the analysis?

Yes. The method sets the biological resolution of the analysis — for example, genus-oriented (16S), species/strain and functional-potential (WGS), or activity-context (MetaT). Your report package separately controls how much interpretation you receive.

Is microbiome analysis the same as a report package?

No. Analysis is the process of generating microbial data. The package controls interpretation depth — how much of the report you receive. VAMS BIOME keeps the method and the package as separate choices.

Can I track microbiome analysis over time?

Repeat testing can support longitudinal comparison when the same reporting structure and compatible analysis pathway are available.
