The Panel Framework

How Panels turn individual Scores into a readable biological story

Panels group related, sequencing-derived microbial signals into coherent themes — so patterns are read together, in ecosystem context, rather than as isolated numbers.

A single Score rarely tells the whole story. Panels are the layer of VAMS ATLAS™ that connect related microbial patterns — grouped by ecosystem and biological theme — into an interpretation that reflects how microbial communities actually behave together. Each Panel is contextualized against reference cohorts and carries confidence indicators drawn from its underlying Scores. Panels describe associations reported in current microbiome science; they are educational interpretation, not diagnosis or medical advice.

Why Panels matter for responsible interpretation

Grouping the signal so it reads like a story, not a spreadsheet.

Reading microbial features one at a time can exaggerate small signals and hide the larger picture. Panels reduce that risk by grouping linked Scores into a themed reading, so related patterns reinforce or temper one another before any narrative is drawn. Because every Panel inherits the confidence indicators of its component Scores and is compared against relevant reference cohorts, it communicates not just what a microbial pattern may suggest, but how strongly that reading is supported. Panels are a structured way to see associations — never a way to detect, predict, or rule out disease.

This is interpretation depth working as intended: more context, clearer limits, and no overstatement of what sequencing-derived data can mean.
